Abstract

|
A case of esophageal rupture in a 47year old male was reported. Esophageal rupture demands early diagnosis and treatment, should the patient to be saved.
In the unoperated cases, the condition is invariably fatal.
The rupture occurs as an abrupt tear and the defect appears as a longitudinal rent on left posterolateral aspect of supracardiac portion of the esophagus.
The treatment consists of immediate surgical repair via thoracotomy, drainge from mediastinum and pleura I space, and supportive therapy. The review of literature for esophageal rupture was made herein.
